Team Brandon Valley had a busy weekend taking eight teams to Moorhead High School to compete. The players met some great competition, learned a lot - and even brought home a few medals. We are excited to recognize these athletes as our players of the week.
Griffin Musser, 6th grade: Coach Schultz says Griffin was a consistent leader for his team this weekend. He seemed to always come up with big rebounds and buckets for the team. He also brought a lot of energy to the floor. Griffin tells us his favorite thing about playing basketball is watching the ball go through the hoop. He also plays football. His favorite BV athlete is Jackson Hilton.
Cailey Van Ruler, 7th grade: All weekend Cailey showed amazing effort and hustle, which is why Coach Terveer is recognizing her as a player of the week. During games she worked to get her teammates open looks. While working hard on defense, she also turned and ran the floor well. Most importantly, she was coachable - listening to her coaches to continuously improve her game. Cailey tells us she loves the competitive nature of playing basketball. She also plays softball and volleyball. In her spare time, she likes to spend time with her friends.
Jax Nuebel, 8th grade: Coach Jurgens is recognizing Jax for his effort throughout the tournament. All weekend long he played hard and it showed - with Jax making a number of effort plays which had a positive impact for his team. That hard work, coupled with a great attitude, made him a key player last weekend. Jax tells us his whole family likes basketball so it is a sport they can all enjoy together. He also runs track. In his spare time he likes to hang out with his friends. His favorite BV athletes are Jackson Hilton and Zach Scholten.
Gabby Klinkhammer, 8th grade: Coach Freking says Gabby showed tremendous effort and work ethic in the tournament. She showed high energy on both the offensive and defensive sides of the court. Her defensive effort against much bigger players helped to lead the team to a successful weekend. Gabby tells us she likes the competition and intensity of playing basketball. She also plays volleyball, runs track and enjoys swimming and water sports with her family. Her favorite BV athlete is Hannah Berhens.
Isaac Jarovski - 8th grade: Coach Waltner said Isaac led his team by being aggressive on both offense and defense. Each game he did a great job of distributing the ball and creating plays for his teammates. He continuously came up with big-time plays when the team needed it most. Isaac tells us his favorite thing about Team Brandon Valley is having fun with his teammates. He also plays football and runs track. His favorite BV athlete is Carter Olthoff.
Owen Van Es, 9th grade: Owen was a leader for his team this weekend - and Coach Scholten is recognizing him for his efforts. He did a great job of attacking the rim and finishing under the basket. He also made plays for his teammates and made countless tough shots to lead his team to a championship. Owen tells us his favorite thing about Team Brandon Valley is playing his favorite game with his friends. He also enjoys soccer and weight lifting. His favorite BV athlete is Drew Jurgens.
Riley Peyton, 10th grade: Riley was a consistent scorer all weekend long. Coach Walter said he was asked to guard the opposing team’s top players and responded with great effort. He was a key leader in each of the games he played. Riley tells us he likes to play with Team Brandon Valley because he can travel with his team and play in tournaments. Outside of basketball he also enjoys running in track and cross country as well as playing disc golf with his friends. His favorite BV athlete is Evan Talcott.
Nate Lear, 11th grade: Coach Schultz said Nate showed great toughness on both ends of the floor last weekend. He was sacrificing his body to earn extra possessions for the good of his team. In each game he brought the energy and demeanor needed to win. Nate tells us he enjoys the competition of playing basketball as well as getting to be on the court with his teammates. In addition to basketball, he also participates in track and field. In his spare time he likes to hang out with friends and family.
Gavin Terhark, 12th grade: Coach Deckert said Gavin was solid all weekend long. When we needed him to play well, he stepped up and played great. The extra time he spends in the weight room and getting in extra shots is showing in his confidence level. Gavin tells us he plays basketball because he enjoys being a part of a team. His favorite thing about Team Brandon is hitting the road and playing in tournaments. When he isn’t working out, he likes to play video games and spend time with his friends.
